Urocit-k

Urocit-k is the commercial name for potassium citrate. It is a perscription drug.

Potassium citrate is prescribed by veterinarians for dogs that are at high risk of developing calcium stones in the kidneys.

It works by making the dog's urine less acidic by raising the pH level which,in turn, makes the crystallization of stone forming salts less likely.

Some published warnings we have found:

"You should avoid giving your pet any supplements that contain potassium ... There are possible side effects, so address any concerns you may have with your veterinarian".

Also, multiple sources state that the pills should not be crushed, nor should dogs be allowed to chew them, but rather should be swallowed whole.
