Seborrhea in Dogs
Seborrhea in Dogs is often more a set of symptoms than a distinct skin disease. These symptoms include flaky scaly skin sometimes accompanied by greasiness of the skin or coat. Often Seborrhea can cause secondary infections Thankfully, the condition is not charceteristically prevelant amongst Boxers, though their does seem to be genetic prediposistion for Boxers with the disorder in their family. In cases where Seborrhea isa primary disease it usually begins at a young age and is progressive and not curable. Treatment of secondary sebborheas usually consists of keeping the dog comfortable while treating the underlying, causative condition. Depending on the underlying condition the treatment will consist of either anti-biotics or shampoo therapy or a combination of the two. The type opf shampoo selected depends on the type (dry or oily)of sebborhea, and the amount of grease/oil present.
