Dogs Dry Skin
Dogs dry skin, causes and cures... Causes are numerous, and a persistent condition requires a veretiunarian's care, as some underlying factors may in fact be quite serious. These range from
cheyletiellosis
to
seborrhea
to bacterial infection to flea bite hypersensitivity to internal problems such as hypothyroididsm. Dry,scaly skin may or may not be accompanied by itchiness or other discomfort. Since dry skin can have so many causes,we take our dogs to the veterinarian immediately, upon presentation. In general, dogs with a diet rich in fatty acids and
vitamins E
and A, should not develop dry, flaky or scaly skin. So if they do, it is best to not treat it as "just dandruff". Although Boxers are prone to allergies, flaky skin, thankfully, does not disproportionatley present itself within the breed. But that is all the more reason to seek medical advice early, whenever the conditions do manifest themselves. If your dog only gets dry skin in winter, he may be reacting to indoor heating, and some treatments may be as simple as baby oil or even humidifying the air a bit. Again, since flaky skin is NOT common amongst Boxers, it is best to take the guy to the vet as soon as any flaky skin presents itself.
